Jack Herer had a serious heart attack backstage at Oregon's Hempstalk on Sept. 12, 2009, causing anoxic brain injury that left him with severe speech and physical impediments. Almost as distburbing, a battle has erupted over the hempire, as documented in this Cannabis Culture magazine article.
11 Years and Counting
In
the 11 years since the release of "Emperor
of Hemp," our humble low-budget marijuana documentary has been
seen by millions all over the world and has aired on PBS
stations in major U.S. cities. There is now even an Espanol version in Spain and a French version on Planete No Limit.
We receive email all the time from viewers
who say the documentary has enlightened them to the truth behind
marijuana prohibition. One viewer claims to have seen it more than
400 times! With marijuana arrests at an all-time high, there has never been a more urgent time
to watch "Emperor of Hemp" and discover for yourself the
real reasons behind this brutal war on pot ... and pot-smokers.
And now you can watch it all on our digitally remastered DVD!
A
Grassroots Campaign . . .
In
March 2001, the National Educational
Television Assn. put "Emperor of Hemp" on a satellite for
America's 350 PBS stations to download. Since then, local PBS stations
in such major cities as San Francisco, Denver, Houston, Louisville,
Miami and Buffalo have aired it at least once. That's right. A pro-marijuana
film on PBS! There's no reason why your local PBS station couldn't
do the same. They listen to their viewers. If you could gently prod
your local program director on our behalf, it might make a difference.
You can get the phone number or email address by going to PBS.org.
Many thanks!

Maroon5 Before They Were Maroon5
We were lucky enough to discover Kara's Flowers in 1999 ... before they changed their name to Maroon5 and became famous, winning Best New Artist at the 2005 Grammy Awards and toking up on the pages of High Times. "Emperor of Hemp" features two exclusive songs by the band and a third written by lead singer Adam Levine. Also on the soundtrack: songs by Bonnie Raitt, Joe Walsh, Cheap Trick, Kris Kristofferson, The Rascals, and others.
